History

For over a hundred years, the building Lizzie and Charlie's Rag Rug Factory calls home has been in operation in one way or another.

The foundation of the business goes back to 1903 when James Cash Penny established his second store - The Golden Rule - in Marysvale, UT.  Just a small operation then, The Golden Rule has since expanded to a massive franchise we all know as JCPenny.  James Cash Penny kept his store going in Marysvale from 1903 until 1918.

Later on, in 1934, Lizzie and Charlie Christensen purchased the building and started a rug business.  They lived in a back apartment attached to the store front with their seven children.
Later on, the Christensen's grand-son, Ron Bushman, and his wife, Glenda, re-opened the business in 1990. The operation continued as the place was transformed into a hardworking factory.  However, in 2002, the building caught fire and the factory was closed down.

In 2011, Jeff and Jeanne Knowles restored the building and re-opened the rag rug factory in May of 2012. They are enjoying sharing the rug making craft with free demonstrations that are open to the public or to groups and organizations who might be interested.

  1. Having been there, it is amazing what the place used to look like and what it is today! I am glad that the original exterior was maintained for it's historical appeal. Your products are all exquisite, yet retain the fact that they are locally produced. It is nice to see that MADE IN AMERICA still beats out the Chinese crap they are selling at Wal-Mart! Good luck in your business! Joe Williamson
